Terra top and crop top

10.9015.00

Terra is a sewing pattern for a top and a crop top. Picture yourself wearing it on a boat trip or in a convertible with your hair flowing in the wind along the Riviera. The long version pairs perfectly with jeans and skirts. The short version (a crop top) reveals just the right amount — a narrow strip above the navel — while creating a diva silhouette when paired with high-waisted skirts and pants. This pattern includes two finishing options: a facing for the long version and an attached lining for the crop top. The garment fastens with buttons down the front.

  • Format: printed pattern in a nice packaging or virtual pattern: layered A0, A4 and US letter PDF (one layer per size) and projector file. The projector file also contains mirrored pieces so that you can cut on a single layer.
  • Pattern pieces do not overlap.
  • A 5/8” (1.5cm) seam allowance is included.
  • A fully illustrated, 23 pages booklet is provided with the pattern, with highly detailed illustrations.
  • This pattern and its instructions are in English. You can purchase French version here.
  • Sizing, fabric choice, notions: see below.

Description

Fabric choice

Main fabric: lightweight woven fabrics with no stretch, for example: cotton batiste or poplin, linen, viscose, tencel, cupro, silk, polyester…

Lining (view B): fabric of the same weight or lighter than the main fabric, with a similar drape. Ideally, choose the same fiber: line cotton with cotton voile, viscose with lighter viscose, etc.

Notions

View B: 5/8 yd (50cm) of interfacing suitable for your fabric up to size 14. For size 16, 2/3yd (60cm).

All views: thread and a needle suitable for your fabric and your machine, pins, sewing scissors (not used for cutting paper!), an iron and an ironing board (ironing is an essential step in sewing). Optional: fusible stay tape to reinforce the edges of the neckline.

Sewing level

Intermediate: 2/5. The only technical difficulties are the buttonholes (you will need to master the buttonhole foot on your sewing machine—don’t worry, with a little practice on scraps of fabric, it will be easy!) and the bust curve, which needs a little adjustment to allow for ease. A 33-page booklet is included with the pattern.

Body measurements

This is new: We have changed our sizing system slightly to adapt to changing body shapes. Most sewing patterns, including our older designs, were based on a system dating back to 1972. However, women’s bodies have changed significantly over the decades, and we now have much more accurate data on larger populations thanks to ready-to-wear clothing. Visit our blog or YouTube channel to learn more about these changes. We are also the first brand to share such precise measurements in a completely transparent way. We will have no secrets for you, so you can make all the necessary adjustments!

The new measurements are listed below. For better readability, detailed measurements are only available in desktop view.

Choosing your size

DOES TERRA RUN LARGE OR SMALL?

When we say that a garment “runs large” or “runs small,” we are actually referring to ease: this is the margin allowed by the designer to ensure comfort on the one hand, and the chosen style on the other (a gathered skirt will necessarily have much more ease than a straight skirt). In fact, ease is a very personal matter: everyone likes to have more or less of it, and you will discover your preferences over time. Below is what the designer has planned for this specific garment.

Terra is designed to fit snugly around the bust, with ease ranging from 3/4’’ (2cm) for size 0 to 1 3/8’’ (3.5cm) for size 16.

Terra is also fitted at the waist: for view A, there is 2’’ (5cm) of ease for size 0 and 2 3/4’’ (7cm) for size 16. For view B, the ease is 1/2’’ (4 cm) for size 0 to 2 3/4’’ (7 cm) for size 16.

Hips: view A ends just below high hips with an ease of 2’’ (5cm) for size 0 to 3 1/8’’ (8cm) for size 16. View B ends just above the waist.
