Gemini is that flowy, romantic chic shirt that will give an instant update to any casual or business look. It is inspired by peasant tops with its soft gathers and raglan sleeves, but with a fitted silhouette. Throw it on a pair of jeans or tuck it into a skirt, make it into a breezy crinkled cotton or into a luxurious silk crepe to create different looks that will take you from day to night. Or make it in a silk lamé for a special occasion… I think this will be my next choice, watch my Instagram!
Gemini comes with short or long raglan sleeves. It has soft gathers on neckline and wrists (long sleeved version features buttoned wrists). It has a cute frill on the neckline to complete the look, and front and back darts to sculpt your silhouette (you can omit them if this look doesn’t suit your body shape).
2 to 16. Built-in ease: 4.72” (12cm) at bust and 5” (13cm) at waist.
4/5 – advanced, because of the neck frill. This part is a bit tricky and requires a thin fabric to get it right. Other than that, you need to know how to make darts (tutorial available here) and how to make buttonholes.
All thin and flowy fabrics: silk, viscose, polyester, tencel, cupro… in crepe, satin, twill… Or even a very fine cotton. Be careful to choose a thin fabric, otherwise the frilled collar will be too bulky as you will have to sew through several thicknesses.
With 60inch wide fabrics (152cm), you will need 1.75 yard (1.6 meters) for the long sleeved version. With 44inch (111cm) wide fabrics, you will need 2.5 yards (2.3 meters) for the long sleeved version.
You will need:
12 small buttons (max 12mm) for long sleeved version, 10 buttons for short sleeved version. Matching thread for your fabric, scissors, pins, a marking pen, pins, a machine needle that fits your fabric type, and interfacing that fits your fabric type (for button tab and also for piece 5, long sleeved version only. Depending on your fabric you may also need to interface piece 6 or at least the buttonhole area). Be careful to choose an interfacing that is neither too thick nor too rigid for your fabric: it makes all the difference for a professional finish. Woven interfacing is always better.
